프란치스코 교황 성하의 즉위 경축 미사
주한 교황 대사 축사
(2013년 3월 21일, 오후 6시)

오늘 한국 교회는, 주교, 사제, 평신도 모두가 보편 교회와 더불어, 하느님께서 성령을 통하여 우리 교회에 호르헤 마리오 베르골료 추기경님을 베드로 성인의 새 후계자, 새 교황님으로 주심에 감사드립니다. 우리의 새 교황님은 자신의 이름을 프란치스코로 정하셨습니다.

우리가 사랑하는 베네딕토 16세 교황님의 베드로 직무 사임으로 인간적인 관점에서 참으로 메우기 어려운 공백이 있었습니다.

그러나 우리는 지난 3월 13일, 과거에 그러하였던 것처럼, 성령께서 친히 인간의 협력, 곧 추기경들의 콘클라베를 통하여 활동하고 계시며, 베드로 성인의 후계자를 선택하시고, “세상 끝 날까지” 교황 계승의 지속성을 보장하신다는 참다운 증거를 목격하였습니다.

“너는 베드로이다. 내가 이 반석 위에 내 교회를 세울 것이다”(마태 16,18). 하느님 백성의 역사가 지닌 교회적 차원은 이 신앙의 말씀에 그 근원을 두고 있고, 실제로 이 말씀에서 생겨났으며, 이 말씀을 하신 분과 이어져 있습니다.

교황은 서거하거나 사임할 수 있습니다. 그러나 예수님의 뜻에 따라 교황직과 베드로 좌는 세상 끝 날까지 존재할 것입니다. 시몬 베드로를 당신 교회의 “반석”으로 세우신 예수님의 뜻(마태 16,18 참조)은 사도의 지상 생활보다 오래 지속되는 가치를 지닙니다. 예수님께서는 실제로 당신의 교회를 세우시며 역사의 최종 완성 때까지 교회가 모든 민족들 안에서 현존하고 활동하기를 바라셨습니다(마태 28,19; 마르 16,15; 루카 24,47; 사도 1,8 참조). 이러한 연유에서, 예수님께서는 사도들의 후계자인 우리 주교들을 통하여 세계 도처에서 복음화 활동이 지속되기를 바라셨습니다. 이와 마찬가지로, 예수님께서는 베드로 사도의 후계자들이 교회의 수장으로서 당신의 지상 대리자가 되도록 예견하시고 또 염원하셨습니다. 베드로 성인의 후계자는 성인과 똑같은 사목적 사명을 맡고 똑같은 힘을 지닐 것입니다. 이는 믿음과 사랑, 그리고 교회에 맡겨진 복음화와 성화와 지도력의 직무 안에서 가시적인 일치의 원리, 곧 교회의 “반석”이 되는 사명과 힘으로 시작됩니다.

지난 3월 13일 저녁에, “우리는 교황님을 모시고 있다(Habemus Papam).”는 선포가 이루어졌습니다. 이는 우리 교회의 지속성에 대한 믿음의 선포였습니다. 우리는 교황님을 모시고 있으니 다 함께 기뻐합시다. 예수님께서 약속하신 대로, 베드로의 사명은 계속될 것입니다. 베드로 성인의 새로운 후계자, 새 교황님께서는 이미 당신의 직무를 장엄하게 시작하셨습니다. 프란치스코 교황님의 사명은 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 베드로 성인에게 맡기신 과업을 수행하고 완수하는 것입니다. 곧, 교회를 이끌어 가며, 주교단 안에서 다른 사도들의 후계자들인 형제들의 힘을 북돋아 주는 것입니다.

로마는 베드로 성인께서 당신의 수위권을 행사하셨던 곳입니다. 로마는 베드로의 주교좌입니다. 우리가 사랑하는 프란치스코 교황님은 베드로 성인의 후계자로, 제266대 교황이며 제266대 로마 주교입니다. 수세기에 걸쳐, 로마의 주교이며 그리스도의 지상 대리자인 베드로 성인의 계승은 지속되어 왔고, 또 세상 끝 날까지 지속될 것입니다. 우리의 프란치스코 교황님은 베드로 좌를 받아들이시며, 아마도 막중한 부르심 앞에서, 자신에게 맡겨진 보편 사명 앞에서 인간의 부당함과 나약함을 절감하시며 많이 주저하셨을 것입니다.

그런데 프란치스코 교황님이 당신의 베드로 직무를 시작하시는 바로 그 순간에 어떠한 말씀을 하셨습니까? 새 교황님께서는 당신의 소명에 충실할 수 있도록 우리에게 당신을 위하여 기도해 달라고 부탁하셨습니다. 교황님께서는 또한 우리 주님께서 친히 가르쳐 주신 주님의 기도를 함께 바치자고 하셨습니다.

프란치스코 교황님은 또한 당신과 함께 하느님을 향해 나아가자고 우리에게 당부하셨습니다. 그리고 주님 앞에서 주님의 십자가를 지고 걸어갈 용기를 가지고, 십자가 위에서 흘리신 주님의 피 위에 교회를 세우며, 십자가에 못 박히신 그리스도를 유일한 영광으로 고백하고 증언하자고 우리에게 당부하셨습니다. 프란치스코 교황님이 첫 강론 때 하신 말씀대로, 이것이 바로 교회가 앞으로 나아가야 할 길입니다. 교회는 주님 앞에서, 바로 그리스도이신 모퉁잇돌 위에 교회를 세우고, 그리스도를 증언하여야 할 것입니다.

두 번째 미사에서 프란치스코 교황님은 이렇게 당신의 바람을 표현하셨습니다. “저는 새로워진 사랑으로 복음을 섬기고, 교회가 그 어느 때보다 더욱 그리스도 안에서 그리스도와 함께 주님의 풍성한 열매를 맺으며 살아가도록 돕고자 합니다. 신앙의 해를 맞이하여 우리 목자들과 신자들은 다 함께 영원한 사명에 충실히 응답하고자 함께 노력할 것입니다. 이 사명은 바로 예수 그리스도를 인류에게 모셔 가, 인류가 길이요 진리요 생명이신 예수 그리스도를 만나 뵙도록 이끄는 것입니다. 그리스도께서는 참으로 교회 안에, 아울러 모든 인간 안에 현존하십니다”(2013년 3월 15일).

선거인 추기경단과 함께 드린 첫 미사에서 프란치스코 교황님은 교회 안에는 낙담을 할 여지가 없다고 강조하셨습니다. 이는 언제나 희망과 낙관주의가 있기 때문이며, 하느님께서는 자비와 용서로 가득하신 분이시라고 하셨습니다(3월 17일).

우리는 생각과 마음을 다하여, 이제 새로운 사명을 시작하신 우리 프란치스코 교황님께 우리의 충성을 바치도록 합시다. 교황님의 사명은 명예가 아닌 섬김의 사명입니다. 그분은 하느님의 종들의 종이시기 때문입니다.

우리는 프란치스코 교황님의 베드로 직무를 교회의 어머니이신 복되신 동정 마리아의 사랑과 보호에 맡겨 드립니다.

Mass for Pope Francis
March 21, 6.pm

Today, the Church in Korea, through the Bishops, priests and lay people join the Universal Church in thanking God for the gift from the Holy Spirit in giving to our Church a new successor of St. Peter, a new Pope, in the person of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who has taken the name of Francis.

The resignation of our beloved Pope Benedict XVI from the Petrine Ministry left a vacuum that in human terms was indeed very difficult to fill.

But last March 13, 2013, as in the past, we have witnessed a verifiable proof that the Holy Spirit works through human cooperation of the Conclave of Cardinal, in choosing the successor of St. Peter and in assuring the continuity of the Pontiff’s succession “until the end of time”.

The ecclesial dimension of the history of the People of God takes its origin, in fact is born, from these words of faith, and is linked to the Man who uttered them: "You are Peter?the rock?and on you, as on a rock, I will build my Church”.
A Pope can die or can resign. But, by the intention of Jesus, the Papacy and the See of Peter will remain until the end of time. The will of Jesus to make Simon Peter the foundation "rock" of his Church (cf. Mt 16:18) has a value that outlasts the apostle's earthly life. Jesus actually conceived his Church and desired her presence and activity in all nations until the ultimate fulfillment of history (cf. Mt 26:14; 28:19; Mk 16:15; Lk 24:47; Acts 1:8). For this reason, as He wanted successors for the other apostles, through our Bishops, in order to continue the work of evangelization in the various parts of the world. In the same manner, he also foresaw and desired successors for Peter, as Head of the Church and as his Vicar on earth. The successor of St. Peter would be charged with the same pastoral mission and equipped with the same power, beginning with the mission and power of being the “Rock”--the visible principle of unity in faith, love and the ministry of evangelization, sanctification and leadership entrusted to the Church.
On the evening 13th of March, the announcement was made “Habemus Papam”. It was an announcement of faith in the continuity of our Church. Let us rejoice because we have a Pope, and so, as Jesus has promised, the mission of Peter continues. The new Bishop of Rome, the new successor of St. Peter has already solemnly started his ministry. The mission of Pope Francis is to complete and fulfill the task entrusted to Peter by our Lord Jesus Christ. which is to lead His Church and to confirm his brothers, the successors of the Apostles, in the Episcopate.

Rome is where St. Peter exercised his primacy. Rome is the See of Peter. . Our beloved Francis I is the successor of St. Peter, the 266th Pope, the 266th Bishop of Rome. Down the centuries , the succession of St. Peter as Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ on earth has continued, and it will continue until the end of time. Francis, our Pope accepted the Chair of` Peter, perhaps full of trepidation and conscious of the unworthiness and frailty of every human being, before the greatness of the calling and before the universal mission now entrusted to him.

And what did Pope Francis do at the very start of his Petrine Ministry. He asked us to pray for him, so that he will be faithful to his new vocation. He also asked us to pray together with him, with the prayer of the Our Father, the very prayer our Lord taught.

He also asked us to journey with him towards God, he asked us to have the courage to walk in the Lord’s presence, with the cross of the Lord, he asked us to build the Church upon the blood of the Lord which was poured out on the cross, and he asked us to confess and witness the only glory there is: Christ crucified. This, according to the first words of Pope Francis is the way the Church will go forward: to walk in the presence of the Lord, to build the Church on the cornerstone which is Christ himself, and to witness the person of Christ himself.

In his second Mass, Pope Francis expressed his “desire to serve the Gospel with renewed love, helping the Church to become ever more in Christ and with Christ, the fruitful life of the Lord. Stimulated by the Year of Faith, all together, pastors and faithful, we will make an effort to respond faithfully to the eternal mission: to bring Jesus Christ to humanity, and to lead humanity to an encounter with Jesus Christ: the Way,the Truth and the Life, truly present in the Church and, at the same time, in every person.”(March 15, 2013)
In his first to the Cardinal-electors, Pope Francis stressed that in the Church there is no room for discouragement - because there is always hope and optimism, because our God is full of mercy and pardon.(March 17, 2013).
Let us all join our minds and hearts together to express our loyalty to our Pope Francis, at the start of his new mission. It is not a mission of honor but of service because the Pope is the servant of the servants of God.
We entrust the Petrine Ministry of Pope Francis to the love and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.
